Introduction The ultimate way to listen to the most realistic music sound is to listen the performance of the genuine, real instruments. Think of it as the “ orchestra live in your living room”. Reducing technical complexity and limited by time, space and budgets, this concept is realized by several live instruments, and complemented by conventional speaker system. That makes it like Karaoke where the vocal part is replaced by a set of live instruments. The performer and/ or operator still may add a vocal part via microphone.
Design The MIDI and Karaoke music standards are defined just to do the above. Within the file structure, each instrument is assigned to a channel. There are 16 channels available. The performing software program links the 16 channels of a song to the appropriate output modality. From the Computer, the information is converted into MIDI-out for the live instruments. The other channels are fed to the PC sound chip, and plugged to an external Class_D speaker box.
MIDI Complaint To maintain compatibility, every instrument is MIDI-GM compliant for both plug/ signals and the command set. However every instrument has specific features, which require different interpretation of the commands. E.g., note-length is not relevant for percussion, but is valid for Saxophone. Hence, each instrument is equipped with specific software.
Music Available music from the internet is re-arranged to fit best the instruments. Channel 10 is always the percussion part. The Drum set is reserved for this. As explained above, the sequences that can be performed on the instruments are played live. All other is heard by a speaker box.
